Well, what did you expect?
Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10:28AM I recently attended a fascinating workshop that encouraged me to ask what my expectations really are about my book, my work, everything in my life!
As I'm in the process of completing my fantasy novel, what I learned at the workshop encouraged me to examine my expectations about achieving my goals.
My goal is to write every day (Plan A) and if I don't have the time or energy to do that, I figure that I can make up the time on weekends (Plan B).
But if I already have a Plan B, doesn't that mean I really don't expect to achieve Plan A?
It sure feels like it now that I look at it that way.
This leaves me with two options that I can see right now: (1) get myself to believe that Plan A will work or (2) ditch Plan A and come up with something else that I DO believe in.
I think either option will work, but right now I feel more comfortable with the second one. It's much more believable for me to set a goal that energizes and inspires me, as opposed to trying to find a way to feel good about something that feels like work.
So...no more "Plan A's" for me, since I won't be needing Plans B, C, or D.
And I expect to get this new goal clarified this week!
